In My Father's House

Sonora Dodds whose father was a single parent raising six children in 1910 in Spokane, Washington, introduced Father’s Day to be celebrated during the month of June.  God the Father was in the beginning and Adam was the first human father whom we should of celebrated centuries ago.  The parable of the lost son is really about the father.  We focus on the prodigal living of the son which is the way those who do not have Christ live.  We like to believe the grass is greener on the other side and that we know everything about life. Sometimes we have to experience things before we come to our senses as the text states, “come to your self”.   When we finally realize it is not about us, there is the father waiting with open arms to receive us.  The father in this parable represents our Heavenly Father.  Notice the father did not throw the past in his face because it does not matter what you have done, he was still the son who received forgiveness and was restored to his rightful position.

Everything we think we are missing in the world is just a trick of the enemy to destroy us.  Everything we need is in the father’s house as this son found out.  A child should never have to go outside of the house looking for what is supposed to be in the house.  A good father will provide love, security, provisions, forgiveness, persistence, care, comfort, discipline, support, and “train up the child in the way he should go and when he is old he will depart from it.”  Earthly fathers should take on the characteristics of The Heavenly Father; He is the perfect example of fatherhood.  There is nothing he will not do for his children. He is strong when he needs to be, compassionate when has to be, His grace, mercy, forgivingness, and love is always present.  Everything we need such as salvation, restoration, preparation, protection, healing, abundance, everlasting life, and much more is all in the Father’s House.
